For Brazil it is not: the country is larger than the contiguous United States. With four weeks you no longer have to choose between the coast and the wildlife. What you do have to choose is how many times you are willing to board a plane to see both. **Quick answer:** Four weeks covers five to seven regions of Brazil, as long as the route runs in one direction and includes a slow beach stretch. The best window is July to September, when the Pantanal, the Amazon and the Lençóis Maranhenses overlap. We do not publish one price for four weeks; individual regions start from US$600 to from US$1,800 per person. ## Is four weeks in Brazil worth it? Four weeks in Brazil is worth it when you spend the extra time on depth and rest rather than on more stops. A month fits the rainforest, the wetland, the dunes and the coast into one trip without turning any of them into a drive-by. The fourth week does not open a new trip. It takes the pressure off the one you have. A rained-out Amazon morning or a rescheduled domestic flight stops being a loss and becomes a shrug, which is a better use of a week than it sounds. It also buys something no brochure mentions: the time to waste a day. An afternoon in a hammock at Praia do Forte is an indulgence on a two week trip and simple good sense on a four week one. Three routes work reliably for four weeks in Brazil: a grand loop through every landscape, a low-flight route through the south and the Northeast, and a wildlife route with long stays. All three start in Rio and finish on a beach. Read them as examples, not packages. A four week trip is a special one, and we always build it individually around what you want, stop by stop. **1\. The grand loop.** Four days in [Rio de Janeiro](https://www.authenticbraziltravel.com/destinations/rio-de-janeiro/), three at Iguaçu Falls, five in the northern Pantanal, four in the Amazon, four in the Lençóis Maranhenses, three in Salvador and three at Praia do Forte. That is 26 days on the ground and five domestic flights. It is the first-timer's route when you want everything, and the most demanding of the three. **2\. Fewer flights, more coast.** Four days in Rio, four in Paraty and three on Ilha Grande, both reached by road and boat, then three at Iguaçu, five in the southern Pantanal, three in Bonito, and six to finish in Salvador and Praia do Forte. 28 days, only three domestic flights. The calmest of the three, and the one to pick if you would like to see as few airports as possible. **3\. Wildlife in depth.** Four days in Rio, five in the northern Pantanal, four in the Amazon, then the seven day [Rota das Emoções](https://www.authenticbraziltravel.com/experiences/rota-das-emocoes/) from the Lençóis to Jericoacoara, and six days in Salvador and Praia do Forte at the end. 26 days, four domestic flights. This is the route for travelers who care more about jaguars and dunes than about cities. ## When is the best time for a month in Brazil? The best time for a month in Brazil is July to September. The Pantanal is in its dry season, the Amazon is moving into low water, and the lagoons of the Lençóis Maranhenses are full. Only in that window does a long route show all three at their best. The catch deserves saying out loud. July is the most expensive month in the Pantanal because of the Brazilian school holidays, and the lodges there are small. If you are traveling in July or August, book about six months ahead, or availability will choose your route for you. If your month falls elsewhere, change the route rather than the trip. From December to March the Pantanal is flooded, so the weeks belong to the coast, the Northeast and the high-water Amazon. April and May are quieter and better value, and the Amazon shows its flooded forest from a canoe. We do not publish a single price for four weeks in Brazil, because we cost every route as one trip rather than as the sum of its regions. Per person, privately guided, with accommodation and transfers included and flights not included, the regions start at these prices: - **Rio de Janeiro, 4 days:** from US$800 - **Foz do Iguaçu, 3 days:** from US$800 - **The northern Pantanal, 5 days:** from US$1,800 - **The southern Pantanal, 5 days:** from US$1,350 - **The Amazon, 4 days:** from US$950 - **Lençóis Maranhenses, 4 days:** from US$1,400 - **Bonito, 3 days:** from US$700 - **Salvador, 3 days:** from US$600 We do not simply add them up because a continuous trip is planned as one trip. Transfers link together, one guide can cover several stages, and a route can therefore start below the total of its parts. Where your month lands depends on three things: the standard of the hotels, how much of it is Pantanal and Lençóis, which carry the highest daily rates, and the month you travel. International and domestic flights are always extra. A sentence that costs us business: if you are hoping to do a month in Brazil at package tour prices, we are the wrong company. Three to five domestic flights make sense in four weeks in Brazil, and no more. Each flight costs roughly half a travel day once you count checkout, transfers and waiting, so five flights spend about two and a half days of your month in transit. Brazil's distances are the reason, and they are easy to underestimate. On a map, Manaus and Salvador are two dots in the same country. From the window seat they are mostly clouds, for a long time. If a plan you read elsewhere packs eight or nine flights into four weeks, the length of the trip is not the problem. Its shape is. ## Do you need rest days on a month-long trip? Yes, a month in Brazil needs at least one real break of three to four days, ideally on a beach. After the Pantanal and the Amazon, with early safaris and humid heat, your body is more tired than the itinerary looks. That break works best at the end, after Salvador on the coast at Praia do Forte. There is little to organise and nothing to miss, which after three weeks of full days is exactly the point. If you would rather breathe earlier, put it in the middle on Ilha Grande, where there are no cars and so no reason to go anywhere. ## Who looks after you during a four week trip? During a four week trip you have one contact from the first inquiry to the flight home, and experienced English-speaking local guides in every region.
