Because every trip we plan is private, a teenager can take the surf lesson while the grandparents take the boat, and everyone is back together for dinner. Brazil gives you a walk-in bird park, a boat that drives right under a waterfall, pink river dolphins from a canoe and sea turtles on a beach, all close enough together on short domestic flights to string into one route. With a single week, the realistic plan is Rio and Foz do Iguaçu together, or Rio paired with the calmer islands of the Costa Verde, and the Amazon left for a trip with more room in it, since the river boat alone deserves four or five days. With ten to fourteen days, three regions become genuinely comfortable rather than a spreadsheet exercise.
