# Private Island Trips to Fernando de Noronha, Brazil

Brazil's Protected Island

Fernando de Noronha, Brazil, is a volcanic archipelago 350 kilometres out in the Atlantic, where seven tenths of the land and the sea around it are a national marine park, visitor numbers are capped, and Baía do Sancho has been voted the best beach in the world more often than any other stretch of sand in Brazil.

## The Island Brazil Decided to Protect

Fernando de Noronha is the tip of a volcano that never quite finished the job, 21 islands and rocks sitting 350 kilometres off the coast of Pernambuco, of which exactly one is inhabited. Roughly seventy percent of the archipelago, and the water that matters most, is the Parque Nacional Marinho de Fernando de Noronha, and the whole property has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2001 together with the Atol das Rocas. That protection is not decorative. It shapes what you can do here, when, and with how many other people.

The island decides how many visitors it will take, charges an environmental tax for every day you stay, and asks a separate park fee before you set foot on the beaches inside the reserve. The trails with the natural pools, Atalaia above all, run on booked slots tied to the low tide, in groups small enough to be counted. It sounds like a lot of admin, and honestly, it is. It is also exactly why the reef is still alive, why the water at Sancho is the colour it is, and why a beach here on a Tuesday in October can feel close to empty.

What you come for is the water. Baía do Sancho, reached down a staircase bolted into a cleft in the cliff, has been voted the best beach in the world more times than we can politely mention. Baía dos Porcos sits below Morro Dois Irmãos, the twin rock that ends up on every photo anyone brings home. Spinner dolphins come into the Baía dos Golfinhos to rest at first light, and the diving, with visibility that regularly runs past thirty metres, is the best in Brazil by a wide margin. Four days is enough. Six is better, because the sea sets the schedule here, not you.

## Handpicked experiences in Fernando de Noronha

We don't list every tour, only the ones we'd actually send you on: the unmissable classics, plus a few most visitors never find.

Signature

### Baía do Sancho and the park beaches

Half to full day

The famous one, reached by a ladder and a staircase wedged into a crack in the cliff, and then a crescent of sand under a green wall with water in three shades of blue. We pair it with Baía dos Porcos next door and Praia do Leão, all inside the national park, and time the visit so you arrive when the day boats have not.

Signature

### Diving the marine park

Half day, two dives

Brazil's best diving, and it is not a close contest. Warm water, visibility that regularly runs past thirty metres, lemon and nurse sharks, green turtles, rays and the occasional pod of dolphins passing overhead. Certified divers get two tanks on the outer sites; a first-timer can do a supervised baptism dive instead.

Classic

### Spinner dolphins at dawn

Early morning, 2-3 hours

Hundreds of spinner dolphins come into the Baía dos Golfinhos at first light to rest after a night of hunting. You watch from the clifftop viewpoint, not from the water, because the bay is closed to boats and swimmers. An early alarm, a thermos of coffee, and one of the better wildlife sights in Brazil.

Insider tip

### The Atalaia pool, on a booked slot

Half day, tide dependent

A tidal pool on the wild eastern shore where reef fish, small sharks and octopus get trapped by the falling tide. Access is a timed, capped slot with a park guide, mask and snorkel only, no fins, no sunscreen. The window moves with the tide every day, which is exactly why it needs booking well ahead.

Classic

### Boat trip along the north coast

Half day

The island seen the way it should be, from the water: out past Ponta da Sapata and the arch at the western end, along the cliffs, with dolphins riding the bow more often than not and a snorkel stop where the boat can safely stop. Two to three hours, and the best light is the early departure.

Insider tip

### TAMAR and the forts

2 hours

The Projeto TAMAR base runs open evening talks in season, when green turtles nest on the island's beaches between roughly January and June. Add the ruined Forte dos Remédios above the old harbour for the other half of the story, three centuries of Portuguese garrison, prison colony and airbase.

## Your day-by-day journey

This is just one example of how your days could unfold, every itinerary is private and fully tailored, so we gladly reshape it around your pace, interests and travel dates.

2. ![First view over the turquoise water of Baía do Sancho](https://www.authenticbraziltravel.com/images/destinations/fernando-de-noronha-hero.webp)

    Day 1

    ### Fly in, pay your dues, find the sea

The flight from Recife takes a little over an hour, from Natal about the same. At the airport you settle the environmental tax and the park ticket, which we prepare in advance so it takes minutes rather than a queue, and your host runs you to the pousada. The afternoon is for the near beaches, Conceição or Cacimba do Padre, and for sunset behind Dois Irmãos.

    - Flight from Recife
    - Fees handled
    - Sunset at Dois Irmãos

3. ![Spinner dolphin surfacing in the clear water off Fernando de Noronha](https://www.authenticbraziltravel.com/images/destinations/fernando-de-noronha-dolphins.webp)

    Day 2

    ### Dolphins first, then the park beaches

Up before the sun for the Baía dos Golfinhos viewpoint, where the spinner dolphins come in to rest. Breakfast afterwards, then into the national park for Baía do Sancho and Baía dos Porcos, down the cliff staircase and into water that makes the whole trip make sense. Back late, sandy and quiet.

    - Dawn viewpoint
    - Baía do Sancho
    - National park

4. ![Reef fish and sponges on a dive site in the Fernando de Noronha marine park](https://www.authenticbraziltravel.com/images/destinations/fernando-de-noronha-marine-park.webp)

    Day 3

    ### Under the surface

A diving morning on the outer sites, two tanks for certified divers or a supervised first dive if you have never breathed underwater. If diving is not your thing, the boat trip along the north coast covers the same water from above, with a snorkel stop and dolphins on the bow. Afternoon free, which on this island usually means a beach and a book.

    - Two dives or boat trip
    - Thirty metre visibility
    - Free afternoon

5. ![Evening light over the sea and the twin rock of Morro Dois Irmãos](https://www.authenticbraziltravel.com/images/destinations/fernando-de-noronha-dois-irmaos.webp)

    Day 4 · Finale

    ### The pool, the fort, and one more sunset

The Atalaia slot if the tide gives us one, otherwise the wilder eastern beaches and the Forte dos Remédios above the old harbour. In turtle season the TAMAR evening talk is worth the hour. Then the last sunset, and a morning flight back to the mainland with the archipelago going small behind the wing.

    - Atalaia if the tide allows
    - Forte dos Remédios
    - Flight to the mainland

## The island only takes so many people. Book early.

Flights and pousadas on Noronha sell out months ahead, and the good park slots go first. Tell us your dates and we will tell you honestly what is still open.

## Included in every journey

### Local host & guiding

An island host who meets your flight, sets you up, and guides the park days. Someone who knows which beach the swell has ruined today and which one it has just improved is worth more here than anywhere else in Brazil.

### Fees and permits, prepared

The environmental tax, the national park ticket and the timed slots for Atalaia and the other capped trails, all arranged before you fly, so the island's rules cost you paperwork instead of days.

### Hand-picked pousadas

There are no chain hotels here and no room for one. We book the pousadas we know, from simple and spotless to the handful of genuinely luxurious ones, all vetted in person and all filling months ahead.

### Transfers and island transport

Airport transfers and every excursion arranged, plus a buggy for the days you would rather set your own hours. One road runs the length of the island, and it is a nicer drive with someone else at the wheel on park days.

## Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Fernando de Noronha? +

By air only, and only from two places: Recife, a little over an hour, and Natal, about an hour. Azul and Gol fly the route, seats are limited and they sell out months ahead, particularly around New Year, Carnival and the July holidays. We build the mainland side of your trip around the flight we can actually get rather than the other way round, which usually means a night in Recife or Natal on either side.

What does it cost to enter, and why are there two fees? +

Two different bodies, two different tickets. The environmental preservation tax, the TPA, goes to the island administration and is charged for every day you stay, R$ 105.79 per day in 2026, rising the longer you remain, so a week comes to roughly R$ 670. The national park ticket goes to the park and costs R$ 384 for foreign visitors, valid for ten consecutive days, and you need it for Sancho, Porcos, Leão, Sueste and the park trails. We prepare both before you fly. Travelling in a larger group lowers the price per person, because the guide and the vehicle are shared.

When is the best time to go? +

August to November is the sweet spot: the sea is calmest, the diving visibility is at its best, and the rain has stopped. January to March brings the wetter months and a heavy swell on the north coast, which is bad for snorkelling and very good indeed if you surf, because Cacimba do Padre is one of Brazil's serious waves. Green turtles nest between roughly January and June. The island is fine year-round; what changes is which half of it works.

How many days do I need, and what does it combine with? +

Four full days is the honest minimum, five or six is better, because the tide and the swell decide the order of your days and you want the slack to reshuffle. It combines naturally with Recife and Olinda, with the beaches of Bahia further south, or as the quiet half of a trip whose other half is Rio or the Amazon. It does not combine well with a tight schedule.

What does a stay on Fernando de Noronha cost? +

Privately guided stays start from US$1,350 per person for five days on the ground, with accommodation, transfers and guiding included. Flights, international and domestic, are not part of that, and the island charges its own fees on top, the national park ticket and the daily environmental tax described above. Rooms are few and go months ahead, so the season and how early you book move the figure most.
