Highlights

Private boat · Two full safari days

This experience is built around one priority: time on the river. Arrival and departure each have their own day, leaving two complete days for private boat safaris from Porto Jofre. You do not lose your main wildlife time to a transfer halfway through the stay.

Your boat, guide and 4×4 transfers are private. We organise the route from Cuiabá through Poconé and along the Transpantaneira, with three nights in the same pousada. That gives the trip a simple rhythm: arrive, spend two days exploring, then return.

A pousada on the Transpantaneira is the accommodation in this example, in a Standard Double room. The focus is on the safari rather than luxury hotel facilities. Tell us if you would prefer another property, more river days or a German-speaking guide; we check availability and price the changes before you book.

Your day-by-day expedition

This is just one example of how your days could unfold, every itinerary is private and fully tailored, so we gladly reshape it around your pace, interests and travel dates.

  1. Day 1

    From Cuiabá to Porto Jofre

Meet your guide in Cuiabá and set off in a private 4×4 via Poconé and the Transpantaneira. The road journey is part of the day, with stops adapted to conditions and wildlife along the way. Settle into a pousada on the Transpantaneira for the first of three nights. An optional night drive can be arranged at extra cost. We agree the pickup and travel timings around your arrival before confirming the itinerary.

Overnight: Pousada on the Transpantaneira, Standard Double
  2. Day 2

    Your first full boat safari

Spend the day exploring the rivers around Porto Jofre with your private boat and English-speaking guide. The search follows current conditions and signs of wildlife rather than a fixed sightseeing circuit. There is time to wait, watch and photograph when an animal appears. Return to the same pousada for the night. Jaguars are wild animals, so a sighting is never guaranteed.

Overnight: Pousada on the Transpantaneira, Standard Double
  3. Day 3

A second day to follow the river

Another full day on the water gives you a second opportunity to explore, without packing or changing lodges. Your guide adapts the route to the day. Whether you are photographing wildlife or simply watching, tell us the pace you prefer when we plan the trip. The boat is private to your party; other visitors may be on the same rivers.

Overnight: Pousada on the Transpantaneira, Standard Double
  4. Day 4

    Back along the Transpantaneira

After breakfast, return to Cuiabá by private 4×4. We agree your departure time with the road journey and onward plans in mind. An extra morning safari is optional, costs extra and only fits when the return schedule allows it. Flights are quoted separately and are not included in the safari price example.

Frequently asked questions

How long is this private jaguar safari? +

Four days and three nights, starting and finishing in Cuiabá. Days one and four are for the road transfers; days two and three are full private boat-safari days from Porto Jofre. We can quote additional nights if you want more time.

What does a jaguar safari in the Pantanal cost? +

A previous calculation was EUR 1,890 per person sharing a Standard Double room at a pousada on the Transpantaneira, for four days and three nights with private 4×4 transfers, two full private boat-safari days and an English-speaking guide. Reviewed in September 2026, this is an example rather than a currently bookable fixed price. Dates, room availability and guide language determine your personal quote. We retain the original EUR amount rather than showing an estimated USD conversion.

What is not included? +

International and domestic flights, lunch on arrival and departure days, alcoholic drinks, insurance and tips are excluded from the example. An optional night drive or an extra departure-day safari costs extra. Your proposal itemises included meals and any changes to the accommodation or guiding.

Are the boat and guide private? +

Yes. The two scheduled boat-safari days, your guide and the 4×4 transfers are private to your party. The pousada accommodates other guests, and the rivers are not exclusive to this tour. English is the guide language in the example; request German when you enquire so we can check availability and cost.

Is a jaguar sighting guaranteed? +

No. The itinerary dedicates two full days to searching by boat, but wildlife, river conditions and weather determine what you see. We do not sell a guaranteed encounter or a guaranteed photograph.

Can I combine it with a longer Brazil trip? +

Yes. Tell us your broader route and we plan the connections through Cuiabá. We check flight times before confirming the road transfers. The safari can be booked as a regional experience or included in a tailor-made Brazil journey; flights and extra hotel nights are quoted separately.

Are jaguars dangerous to people? +

Attacks on people are extremely rare. You watch from the boat at a respectful distance, and your guide sets the distance and the rules. The jaguars along the riverbanks are used to boats and mostly ignore them, so you get long, calm sightings instead of drama.

Which animals can I see in the Pantanal besides jaguars? +

Capybaras, caimans, giant otters, hyacinth macaws and jabiru storks are among the regulars along the rivers and the Transpantaneira. Tapirs turn up too, with some luck. Wildlife keeps its own schedule, so we promise no particular sighting, but the Pantanal rarely sends anyone home with an empty notebook.

What travelling with us was actually like

  • My wife and I have always been thrilled by Brazil, but we had never dared to organise the trip ourselves. Authentic Brazil Travel planned the whole journey for us, including some destinations we did not know. The trip was superbly organised, the guides were great, the accommodations lovely and the transfers punctual. Thanks to the wonderful guides and their tips we felt safe the entire time and got to discover a lot of new things. Gladly again!
