Bonito sits inland in Mato Grosso do Sul, and everything worth doing there happens in fresh water. The rivers here run out of limestone springs, which is why you can read the bottom from the surface and why the fish stay put while you drift past them. You wear a wetsuit, you float, and you do not kick, because kicking is what clouds the water for everyone behind you.
Most of our guests reach it the same way: a few nights at a nature lodge in the southern Pantanal, then a private transfer with their guide, about two and a half hours by road. The Pantanal gives you open wetland and big animals. Bonito gives you the same region at eye level and underwater. They are two halves of one trip rather than two destinations.

The two classic snorkelling rivers. You enter at the spring, drift with the current for a kilometre or so, and the fish simply carry on with their day around you. Wetsuits are provided, and the water sits at 21 to 23 degrees all year.

Bonito sits on limestone, so the caves here filled with water rather than air. You can snorkel the flooded chambers, and certified divers can go deeper. It is the part of Bonito nobody expects before they arrive.

Bonito is a year-round destination, and the month decides what it is best at. May to August, the dry winter, gives the clearest water for snorkelling, because no rain is stirring up sediment and the fish gather more densely. Nights can drop below 15 degrees then, though the water stays at 21 to 23 and a wetsuit is provided. December to March is hot, over 30 degrees, with powerful waterfalls, at the cost of visibility that can cloud briefly after heavy rain. October, November and April sit in between and are the best compromise.
Two to three days. Three lets you take a river morning, a cave and a waterfall circuit without rushing any of them, which is why our own rate is quoted for three nights.

Leaving, you fly out of Campo Grande, and there are two ways to reach it: a private transfer timed to your flight so you are not sitting in the terminal for hours, or a cheaper shuttle bus with fixed departures that we match to your flight as closely as its schedule allows.
No. Everything here works with a snorkel and a wetsuit, including the flooded cave. Diving is an option for certified divers, not a requirement for anyone.
In Bonito we work mainly with English-speaking guides. Your trip is planned and coordinated in your own language throughout, but expect the guiding on the ground here to be in English.
